Project in focus

Project Category:Infrastructure, Water Utilities
Project Name:M25 at Dartford-Thurrock River Crossing
Client:Eight20 Alliance on behalf of Thames Water
Location:Dartford Crossing, Greater London
Project Overview:Engaged by Eight20 Alliance on behalf of Thames Water, the McAllister Group was charged with the sealing of several joints on a 750mm diameter sewer suspended from the bridge.
Issues to consider:Man-entry into sewer whilst suspended. Project offered a timebound window of only 5 hours over a 48-hour period given that the location of the sewer necessitated a lane closure on the busy M25.
Works preparation:CCTV Investigation
Solution:A design was agreed to install a Quick-lock joint sealing system which is a stainless steel mechanical joint seal which in this case was installed via man-entry. The application is ideal to use for projects which are time critical given that the system does not require the installation and curing of chemicals or resins. The installation team from the McAllister Group were trained in the use of the application in Germany by manufacturer UHRIG.
Outcomes:The Quick-Lock system was installed over a five-hour period over two night shifts. The project was successful, completing under budget and within the tight time parameters.
